Cosmetic Dentistry - Porcelain Veneers - Tiger Smile Family Dentistry

Our Baton Rouge dentist office has come a very long way over the years and now offers a multitude of solutions for almost any given problem.  Cosmetic dentistry in particular offers several methods by which patients can address their particular concerns and achieve their ideal smile.  Among the most common concerns for these patients are chipped or uneven teeth and discolorations.  While there are ways to address these issues individually, there is also a method which may be capable of correcting them all: porcelain veneers.

Veneers are very thin, porcelain shells which are customized to the patient and affixed to the teeth to correct a number of aesthetic problems.  These shells not only provide an improved appearance, but they are also sturdy and can accomplish desired results in a relatively short time frame.  Some of the reasons that a patient may choose porcelain veneers include:

  • Discolorations – Teeth whitening can brighten most smiles and improve discoloration from surface stains.  However, deeper stains or those caused by genetics or certain medications may not always be treatable with traditional whitening methods.  In this case, porcelain veneers placed over the teeth can provide a bright, uniform smile.  Not only will they eliminate current discolorations, they are also stain resistant and will help the patient avoid the same problem in the future.
  • Uneven Teeth – For some patients, especially those who are older, braces may not always be an ideal option for correcting an uneven smile.  They are uncomfortable, time consuming, and unattractive.  Veneers, however, are quite the opposite, and because they are designed specifically for each individual patient, the final result is an even, flawless smile.
  • Gaps or Chipped Teeth – Flaws in the teeth can lead to self-consciousness and displeasure with one’s appearance.  In some cases, when these chips are minor, a dentist may be able to smooth out the flaw for a seamless look.  In more severe cases, or when gaps are present, greater measures may be required.  With porcelain veneers, shells can be placed over chipped teeth, and they can be designed so that no space appears between.
  • Time – For most of the concerns listed, alternative treatment options such as braces require a great deal of the patient’s time.  Not only is it inconvenient, but the pleasure of immediate results is simply not an option.  However, the design and application of veneers can often be accomplished in as little as two appointments.

Porcelain veneers offer a quick and lasting alternative for many common dental concerns.  When properly cared for, they may even last for up to 20 years, providing patients with a flawless smile.  Whether teeth are discolored, uneven, or time is simply a factor, there are a great number of reasons to consider this dental procedure.
