Endodontic treatment is most often referred to as a root canal procedure. It helps eliminate infection and pain when a tooth is diseased.
Endodontics is beneficial to save an infected or diseased tooth. Here at Tiger Smile Family Dentistry, we recommend endodontic treatment when the pulp of the tooth is inflamed or infected due to reasons such as deep tooth decay, traumatic injuries, cracks, bite disorders, and gum disease. Severe pain and tooth abscesses may develop when the condition is left untreated for a long time.
Even though symptoms are always not present, there are some signs that you may notice that may signify that you need this treatment. In case there are no symptoms present, your dentist will perform a thorough dental examination to diagnose the condition.
The tooth may feel sensitive for the first couple of days after completing the treatment. Tissue inflammation is natural during such periods. You can take an over the counter pain medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to control the sensitivity. Most patients can return to their normal day to day activities the next day following the procedure.
You should minimize chewing food using the affected tooth for a few days. This will prevent the fragile tooth from breaking before it is fully restored. You should brush, floss, and use a mouthwash as you regularly would once the treatment is completed. You should also make it a point to visit the dentist at normal scheduled intervals.
Our professionals are ready to provide safe and effective methods for endodontic treatments and other recommended dental services.
